I went 14.13 miles in 1:35:55, and was 1:29:39 at the 13.13 mark. Finished with a string of 10 sub-7:00s, going 6;58, 6:52, 6:48, 6:52, 6:37, 6:46, 6:36, 6:37, 6:13, 6:14, 0:48...over my hilliest route, too.
Outstanding! Thee cooler weather is showing just how great your fitness truly is. Do you have a sense of what "marathon pace" will be two weeks from now? I am thinking 6:45/mile? Maybe 6:40? What are your plans for the two-week taper?
Thanks, Allen. I have been considering my pace plan for the past couple of weeks. I had been thinking 6:48 might be the right number, but am now thinking it should be closer to 6:45. Will look to be about 1:29-flat, or a tad under, at the half mark, and then gradually speed up, while analyzing how I am feeling. In my view, it is always good to keep things tending to the more conservative side in the marathon, and then ramp it up if all systems seem to be "go."
All the best to you...

Thanks, RRR. You are a good man.
My race happened as followed. I fell asleep early (2045) and woke up at 0300 so stayed up. My crib is 2miles from the start so left the house for a light 2mile jog 30mins before gun time. Shed the outer layer and did my extra mile (wAs 28 degrees and breezy) and got to the starting line 90s before the gun. Surveying the starting line I figured I was around the 4th or 5th fastest 5ker In the field as all the local big guns came out. The gun banged off and I went with the front pack. At 100miler it seemed like no one wanted to take the pace so I fired. Hit 400meter at 71secs in lead. 800meters at 2:35 in lead. And then got passed by two guys at 900meters or thereabouts. Also got passed by the eventual 2nd place finisher at almost a mile. Hit the mile at 5:30 and was already hurting a bit. The guy in 2nd then 3rd started hurting and I was able to reel him in and maintain 3rd place until 2 miles. A runner caught me from behind at 2.25 mile and got enough gap to break me off and I DIED. Maintained 4th til the end.
5:30-5:35-6:00. Instead of a good mile and two average miles. This race i had two good miles and one terrible mile. Wish I would have went out at 2:45.
Sorry you had a rough go. It was just a 5k so tee 'er back up and try again.
What do I win for correct prediction?
Some sweet athletic gear from the company I work for...
is my generic email. Good prediction! I know did 1730 the easy way and the hard way...
Now on to half marathon in 2 weeks!
The moral to the story is RRR needs more mileage. Much more mileage.
But still happy with the progress being it's less than 2 years runnin

A wise approach. Confident, but cautious, is good. Enjoy your taper!

Yes, Allen, one must respect the marathon distance. The numbers I will have in my head will be 6:46 or 6:45, but 6:40 will be in the back of my mind.
