High School Male (Junior) that is having some issues with fatigue, so looking for some help.
Background
- normal resting HR is 44-47
- no major changes in training in the last few months (mileage has been consistent and mostly tempo based workouts)
- 5 weeks ago, 13 miles at 6:50 pace with HR never going about 167
- has 2 other runners that are his close peers (close PR's in track and similar abilities)
- until 4 weeks ago, no problems keeping up on workouts with close peers
- 1st race 34 days ago (League meet #1), 5 seconds behind one close peer, 10 seconds ahead of other close peer. 3rd overall in league meet
Past 4 weeks
- resting HR has been steadily over 50 most days
- races have been getting progressively worse
- race last week, (League meet #2), 14th place and 1 minute behind one close peer and 45 seconds behind other close peer
- training load dramatically decreased over past 3 weeks
- ran 4 miles yesterday with HR over 170
- after latest workout, HR has stayed elevated (over 100) for a couple hours after
- has a hard time keeping on on workouts with close peers after only 25% of the workout (mostly tempo paced workout)
- can't even stay with his close peers for the 1st mile of the race (feels gassed), fell 18 seconds back by the 1 mile mark of latest race
- ran a shorter workout (300's) and was able to keep up, but HR was very high next morning
- tried a long run last week and was a disaster
So, initial thought was anemia, but got blood work done and all values are squarely in the good range.
Any thoughts on other things to test for? Any ideas what could be going on and possible remedies? Really appreciate and thoughts and if other info would help, please let me know.
