I have been wanting to apply for scholarships but do not know where to start. I have noticed websites that help you but they all require a paid subscription. Does anyone know of good ways to earn scholarships to help pay tuition?

If you are asking about athletic scholarships, talk to your coach. Most HS athletes do not get athletic scholarships for college.
For academic scholarships and other financial aid, there should be a counselor at your HS who can help with these things.
You might get a reference here on a paid service that will help "hunt down" scholarships for you, but ask about a specific service. You will want to have an idea of where you want to go to college first and what you want to study, so a service doesn't get you into the recruiting pipeline for a school that you have no interest in attending.
I did not mean athletic or academic scholarships I meant small ones that might be through a company or an organization that grants small scholarships.
There is no need to pay for a service to help you google scholarships. Sign up for scholarships.com or fastweb.com (I would suggest creating an email account just for scholarship/college emails, because you'll get a ton). These search engines take a bit of info from you and run searches daily for scholarships that fit your criteria. Then it's up to you to sort through them and apply to what you feel fits you. You have to be in it to win it, but it's a daunting task and you're not likely to get a ton of money. Talk to your counselor. They will help you figure out where to look. I'm a school counselor at a NJ school and this is the basic steps I tell my kids to take.
Don't subscribe to anything...just use Google or talk to a counselor to help find some applications.
If you know what you want to study you can probably find some scholarships online for incoming freshmen who are declaring within that major.
Your high school will likely have a few endowed scholarships you can apply for.
Colleges will often have endowed scholarships for freshmen that are outside of or in addition to academic based aid.
There is a ton of money out there, but it can be time consuming to apply. It should not be hard to find the scholarships though.
If you do a good job with the applications and essays you can make a lot of money of a 20+ hours of work. Way more time efficient than working for $8.00 an hour during school. You usually need decent grades, and strong writing skills, and sometimes you need to interview well.
