For Real? wrote:I never focused on the 1600, but looking at my HS PR converted to 1600, it is only worth a 4:35ish. How is this possible? my first 1600 I usually split right around 4:40, you're telling me I couldn't run more than 5 seconds faster?
this really is an utterly wonderful question, which those amongst you with math interests or just curious enough will get answer
there is i believe an absolute math equivalent for all even number distance runs on a 400 track, meaning equivalent value for 400/800/1600/3200/6400/10800
it is logicaled from logarithmic/exponential decay of speed
each even number value for any of those distances will have an even number value for double or half the distance ( upto 400m limit )
it means 44.00 has to have an even number equivalent for 800
candidates likely are 1'40.00 or 1'42.00 or 1'44.00
goldilocks tells you which is corrrect
you can use that or value or move onto 1600 :
equivalent value to 44.00 for 1600 is definitely one of these :
3'42.00 or 3'44.00 or 3'46.00 or 3'48.00
this is the quandry, the double the distance the more choices to pick from & one is 100% correct
luckily, experience/lists tells us
44.00
1'42.00
3'44.00
are equal values
they have same absolute value
( going to 200 is easy once you consider indoor 200 as symmetrical run of 1 lap, usually offered as 0.25s slower than outdoors
-> 400 shoud = either 18.00 or 20.00 or 22.00
we know it's 20.00 but that is not full outdoor circuit run to keep symmetry, but is indoors where 19.75 = ~ 20.00i
-> 19.75 = 44.00 )
problem is, it's very hard to pick 3'44.00 fit for 3200
i had pick off
7'52.00, 7'54.00, 7'56.00, 7'58.00, 8'00.00, 8'02.00, 8'04.00
experience/lists/etc led me to 7'58.00
i therefore got
3'44.00 = 7'58.00
the answer i get to your question on absolute "math" terms is proportional addition from 3'44 to 4'35 for 1600 to 7'58 for 3200 :
4'35 ->9'40
is it close ?
