I am a real runner but I just don't think it's right to have marathons that sell out months in advance when you can't know if you'll be healthy months after going through a high mileage training cycle
I was very surprised after doing a few 90 mile weeks last month that the California International Marathon is already sold out for example. It seems unreasonable given the race was a good 2 months away, but It's a chain reaction because of the popularity of the Boston Marathon.
And with Grandmas Marathon in Duluth MN, there are often empty spots in the full marathon in the weeks leading up to the race, but the Gary Bjorklund Half is usually sold out months in advance due to local minnesota idiots choosing a half over a full
Overall it's not right. We need a better system for registering. Serious runners from 2:28-3:00 not fast enough to be elite shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops
