I just wanted to check in with some medium-ish term reviews of some Adidas Boost shoes that I own. I have tried out the Pureboost DPR, Boston 6, and Tempo 9. And the Tempo 9 are my favorite so far and allow me to explain why.
Everybody around here loves the Boston 6. I like them, too, but I find them to be ideal for one thing: running fast. When I take these babies out for a run, I routinely go 20-30 seconds/mile faster than I intend to run. Both a good and bad thing. Good for tempos and long races, not the best for easy runs. My only complaints are they are a little thin in the forefoot, which affects how far I can go in them.
I like the concept of the Pureboost DPR. Just a bunch of Boost foam and a knit upper, none of overbuilt arch support systems and things like that. I have used them for easy days, regular training runs, recovery days, things of that variety. I do not think they are well built for workouts and faster days. Not sure about long runs. After the break-in period, the lack of minimal structure seems to be showing its flaws. I am really starting to feel the ground in these when I run on gravel or uneven surfaces, even on shorter runs. If I took these for a long run, I wonder if my feet would feel beat to shreds. These might be retired early and converted to walking shoes.
The Tempo 9 are my favorite Adidas Boost shoes that I have tried. They are somewhat lightweight, have a good feel and structure, great outsole, and offer more cushion than the Boston (no matter what the specs say). They may not be as snappy as the Boston, I think the Tempo 9 makes for a better daily training shoe. If the drop was 8 mm rather than 10 mm, I think these would be the perfect shoe for me.
Anyways, just wanted to offer some thoughts on those for this thread.
