I would be fine without paying players if the NCAA wasn't so corrupt. They are making money hand over fist and not paying the players a dime. Then on top of that, they limit players from making money to support themselves.
Dude, there is no such thing as “worthâ€. It’s a public institution and 100% illiquid. You can’t sell it. There are exactly zero buyers. How much is state capitol in Columbus “worthâ€?
Even if you could sell the football program it would become instantly worthless upon sale as it would no longer be associated with the school. Nobody would care, nobody would buy tickes, no tv contracts and no merchandise. Worthless.
It doesn't matter that it's illiquid because it's value isn't it's (nonexistent) sales price. The team's value is the stream of income which it will generate for the school.

Some of you are confusing cost with value.
Just because Ohio State sells its tuition to out of state students for $X does not mean it is worth $X.

Who cares? Go get a job like everyone else. Where is it written that you are entitled to go to college and play football? If they don’t like it then don’t play. They are getting massive real value with a full ride scholarship, room, coaching, tutors, medical, food, etc. take it or leave it.
The value is created by the school, not the players. Those players on their own team not associated with the school would be worth zip in terms of football value. Zip.
If the players create the value and not the school, then why are 95% of them valued at nothing by the NFL when they hit an actual open market? Zip, zero, nada. Yet when they leave the school the school continues to sell tickets, tv rights and merchandise.
And, who ever thought that UNLV vs. Ohio State was a good idea? 47-14 in the 3rd quarter...smh...

Dang, that's almost the salary of a tenured professor.
Many of the athletes are in joke degree programs like communications. What is that degree anyway? Attended a major school and on the first day of classes sat with the senior football and basketball players in the back row, Moved to the front for the next class. The material was at a 7th grade level. Joke.
Separate these major money making sports from the academic side of the schools. Basketball and football can operate as farm teams to the NBA and NFL lol. Pay these players as they are essentially slave labor now.
