According to the commentator, Jakob went through 1800m in 4.55, which would mean he ran at 7.42 pace for the last 1200m, and I would not be surprised if his last 800m was quite a bit faster.
Jakob's 400m probably wasn't quite what we had hoped for, although he apparently had a dreadful start from the blocks.
After the Norwegian championships, Jakob's father said he would have one month off to recover, so these youth championships is probably the last thing he does (before he humiliates the U20 field in the Euro XC champs in December).
Last thing, I honestly don't think the father is over racing the kid. From my counting, Jakob has had 9 weekends this summer with races, although some of those weekends have been quite intense. Other than that, Jakob may run 2-3 XC races during the winter. All in, that is 12 weekends with races during a year, with a couple of long blocks with intelligent and well supervised training in between. I think most readers of these boards would agree that this sounds like a reasonable schedule.
