But you are aware 55yr-old Mimi has already been through knee surgery in recent years, yet is cranking huge miles out, regardless of terrain, daily...and you don't have any suspicions?
I do have some suspicion which is why I posted a few pages back that I would be more comfortable if we had some unannounced boots on the ground to do a few checks along the way. In light of how easy I have found it is to spoof GPS, I would prefer if there was live/recorded video. It is most likely nothing and the runs are real but there will always be some doubt in my mind if there are no other concrete evidence. The pictures on Mimi's Facebook/Instagram are way too few and far between. Only video evidence of the whole days of running would satisfy me unless we get some boots now and then.
Look, if GPS data IS NOT being uploaded real-time (within seconds/minutes) of the event, for onlookers to watch as it happens, then the data is not only next-to-worthless, but worse, it can help make 'false claims' of performance. 1st, as a minimum, the data upload needs to be real-time. That way, it can be easily checked against the surprise real-time observers of 'boots-on-the-ground'. They would not need to monitor 24/7.
I hope I'm not being too confusing, but guys, THIS IS A NO-BRAINER.
The whole point of a GPS tracker is to give real-time updates. If the data files are instead being uploaded at the end of the day, then they are next to worthless for proof, and worse, they actually can be used as a misinformation tool.
Now scam-watcheroo is claiming that even real-time updates could be intercepted/hacked. But wait a minute, (1) this would require a much more sophisticated hacking than just modifying files post-event; (2) actual real-time uploading of data gives a much more secure method of data verification, that can be compared against real-time comparison from out-side surprise observers. The latter would not have to be as stringent with 24/7 observance if the constant real-time uploading continues to take place.

Exactly. So that anyone can show up, unannounced, and see where the runner is supposed to be and observe them.

After reading through this thread I think we are getting to the point where proof will be impossible for some people. If someone is obsessed with the idea that Runner 'A' is cheating then no proof will be acceptable:
Strava/Garmin: - Files can be faked
Video: - Too obscure, can't see face, could be a relay team dressed up to look the same, camera lost contact with him when he went behind that bush to pee so could have swapped runners, may be the video is sped up slightly and the time signature faked, etc.
Boots on the ground: - Never heard of these people, must be co-conspirators
Famous name boots on ground: Must have been bribed, paid off or duped in some way.
To my mind in these situations one has to apply Occam's razor. If the runner has the pedigree that suggests the performance is plausible then they should be assumed to be legit unless clear and damning evidence is presented (i.e. Rob Young). If the runner has no pedigree then usually the evidence of cheating soon becomes apparent as the data quickly falls apart (Dave Reading, Amy Hughes).
I do agree with you that unannounced boots on the ground checks for all runners attempting records should be standard but I don't think it will make any difference to some people's opinions.
Stop it people.
Unless you have real evidence that one runner is cheating chances are they are probably not cheating.
Again, you will never be able to proof that they did the whole thing. If you want to have that kind of proof, run a race. The SCMT 3100 miler in summer would be the right one, to match the distance.

You apply Occam improperly. What you really managed to do was say: If you have a running pedigree go ahead and cheat, we won't tell on you. If you do not have a running pedigree you are wasting your time, we will never believe you.

Guys, stop it! The King demands it. Forget about independent observers. Mimi's word is good enough for Markus and it should be good enough for all you crumb covered losers too! Let me be the first to congratulate Mimi on the second fastest Transcon of all time! I hear she's already planning on shattering Pete's record next year. 55 is the new 25, don't you know?
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?
1) Look dude. A 'real time' tracker has been around now for a while. It is not extraordinary. In fact, if you look at Mimi's list of sponsors, at least one of them provides that service (i.e., that's their main gig).
Now, the whole point of a real-time tracker is to provide data 'REAL-TIME'. So where's the REAL-TIME data, being provided REAL-TIME? Simple enough question.
2) Why are folks so high on this idea that 'pedigree' or past accomplishments is somehow 'proof' they already set the record here?!? Duh, the person still has to go out and do it. And sure, it is not 100% proof, but as already said, it is not that difficult to provide the tracking data of them doing so in REAL-TIME!
3) We read all of similar protestations to yours, here and on Facebook from R. Young's legion of fans. Duh!!! One would think that after all of that, for anyone to have a shot of legitimacy for yet another America crossing, the LEAST they better be providing is REAL-TIME tracking data! Hello?!?

That is not what I am saying. Independent observers are great but they only prove that the person ran at that point. Robert Young had a lot of observers, that didn't stop him from cheating.
At the end you can't prove it 100% like you could do it in a race with other racers and witnesses.
+1000
As one granny said in a previous commercial ('Where's the beef?'), so Mimi....Where's the real-time data provided in REAL-TIME?!?
As with regard to this Markus dude from the 1990's....look bub, it is the 21st century now....online presentation of REAL-TIME position has been around for a few years now. They even have these things called smartphones, and google maps will speak to in a female voice and tell you where the closest MickeyDee's is, capiche?
Mimi and her support car have been stationary for much more than an hour. Hidden under her Google map are some basic information circles. Some are colored in. The interesting one is a gray circle with the note "Tracker Powered Off". Also an orange circle with the note "Currently Stationary".
To see this hidden data do the following. Put your computer pointer (mouse) over her Google map it will change to a hand. Then, without clicking, scroll up. You should see a "Participants" in large green text with the data below. You will also see to the right of "Participants" gray box with white text that counts from 300 to 0 and then starts over. This counter is a her Google map update timer; every 300 seconds.

Read my prior post. You'll see that Mimi's tracker is checked as powered off. She and her support car are also stationary. Maybe she is just taking a long rest in the car after her morning run. I can only say that she and the car have been stationary for a rather long time.
Pete K. set the current gold standard, which Sandy is following. Mimi should be providing REAL-TIME data with position updates every two minutes. By not doing that she brings her data into question. It is obvious that her data transparency method is not the way to go about such a run, and especially not if your are trying to beat a record, and absolutely not if you are trying to crush a record by more than two weeks.

Marcus is not American. Don't be such a grammar troll. You should point out to Brit "Marvellous" Mimi that she misspelled marvelous ... LOL.

Sure, it will never be proven 100%, but the runner should still make a basic effort to document and record the journey if he or she wants outside recognition. Otherwise what's the point? We aren't asking for a 24 hour GoPro live video feed, just a system where runners can observe and possibly meet up. In this modern age with inexpensive hardware there is no excuse for a lack of real time tracking. It's not a matter of questioning someone's morals. If you want the accolades we're going to have to be able to keep score at home.

I believe this move is called the "Darren Kavinoky". The tracker gets turned on a few hours later and the subject is miles down the road. It's very effective!
