And how long could you maintain that pace on average for?
I'm time trialing 400m later today and am looking sneak under it, my 200m ability is 27.3-27.8 right now.

Everybody can. This is letsrun.com after all. Everyone here's an elite!!!
Seriously though I can't. I haven't tried but I'd be lucky to hold that pace for 300m.
I could do it at 14 and I still can today. That's 33 years.
Yeah, even when I was in-shape and in HS, I don't think I could do that. I could come close, but I don't think I could break it. I think I ran the 100 in around 15, 200 in around 30, and did 400m repeats at around 65-67 sometimes.
broke 50 when I was 20
and still breaking it at 36!
Fairly pleased with that, but not a chance in hell I cold run the mileage you guys do!
I identify as a sub-60s 400m runner.

You really think? I can't imagine running a sub 50 400 - you're basically Superman to be able to do it, it would shred my lungs to ribbons.
But running a ton of easy miles each week with a couple of interval and tempos way below 400m pace? Come on, you could do that in your sleep, surely? Not that you should, but you absolutely could.
Never tried but I'm sure general LetsRun talent would carry me through.

Haha ok so I can do OK , my 5k is currently 17.37 but Im heavy at 80kg so distance just kills my feet and calfs
:-) Awesome times. You're world class for 400 according to http://www.mastersathletics.net/index.php?id=2595

You can break 60 at 47? That's awesome.
I could first break it at 15. I probably could have broke it at 32, but never tried. Last time I broke it was during the last lap of my last 10K in college, and I don't see it happening again.
Out of curiosity, I checked the masters records.
Guido Müller has the M70 record at 59.34.
Marie Lande Mathieu has the W50 record at 57.66.

I made the World Masters Final last year and the European Final 2 weeks ago :)
I think speed is the foundation for all running events, as you mentioned knocking out slower reps are 'easier' but you guys do that time and time again lol I get to about 3 laps and I'm dead lol

At 16, I broke 60 in jeans and Topsiders racing a friend at midnight after two beers. Now 30-some years later I'd need to build up my mileage to finish a 400 meter race at all. I'd be curious to see if I could run a 65 with a year's training.
This could be a good masters challenge thread.
If you can't run sub60 then you just need to work on your speed and aerobic ability. It honestly is just a grind for under a minute

I'm 39, the last time I tried to break 60 was two years ago, and I managed a 58 mid. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but I was starting to tie up, so I can't imagine I would have made it to 500 meters on pace.
I'm an odd one running wise - good XC runner back in the day, now do more longer races recreationally, but somehow kept decent speed. That said, I can't ever seem to meet in the middle for a good road 5K/10K.
48 high runner in college. Best 800 (although didn't run it much) was 2 mins flat. So could hold the pace for 800 meters back then. Flash forward 15 years and 30 pounds later to present and breaking 60 for 400 would be my goal if I tried to race it.
I haven't ran in a year and smoke weed everyday and still run 53.
Salary is also 50k.
8 inches
could do it in HS, but don't think so now.
it seems too painful to even try... any time i go to the track for 400s, its repeats. i can run 4-6 sub 70; they are usually 68-69. never really gone for it on a single rep though.
41 years old.
When I ran my PRs in the 3k 5k and 10k I ran 58 for the 400 near each time. So barely sub-60. I ran a 200m in 26 high with a flying start once
800m 2:01
1 mile 4:19
3000m 8:29
5000m 14:35
10000m 30:44
True slowtwitcher here. I've tried many times to run faster than 58 for 400. Never been able to do it.
Male, 54 years of age. Run about 30 miles/per week. Can run 200M in 36 high, but can't break 80 secs for 400M. I enjoy hard 6 mile runs - best is just under 45Min..
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Guys between age of 45 and 55 do you think about death or does it seem far away
