Depends on how often one smokes.
Pack a day
Or
One when he is wasted at 3am in the morning (not knowing any better or falling back on old habits) and everyone is outside because the bar just closed.
I could see the latter happening to Jenkins or Hill.

I think a person who smokes everyday would eventually stop running everyday. When you say yes to cigs there is little you will say no to.
I always wondered about Chatterway.
Smoked like a chimney. Had he not tripped in Helsinki he could well have beaten Zatopek.
He of course paced Banister and held the world record having beaten Kutts.

How long had you smoked and how many cigs per day?
How much faster did you get after you quit?

Started in the 7th grade with chesterfields, then to camels, then to lucky strikes. Then fell in love with newports..lol! A few Winston and Marlboros thrown in until I was 26
