Dude ran 1:54 in high school in Detroit. I think he knows how to write a running anthem.

LOL I'm pretty educated and yet I love Eminem. Maybe it's because I grew up on it?
I can almost listen to any music.... except country
he's got 10x the brain of you guys
Nah. The beat is 86 bpm. It would have to be sped up to 90bpm to get runners to run at the only proper cadence.

Deer old people,
There is good rap. And there is bad rap. Eminem is usually somewhere in the middle leaning toward good earlier in his career.

Since rap is the most degenerate music ever invented, I never imagined a coach would actually play it to motivate a running team.
You must live under a rock to have not heard this song ANYWHERE in the past 15 years.
So your opinions about music are obviously very important.
Please tell us what you "imagine a coach would actually play to motivate a running team."

with rap/hip-hop, no music skill whatsoever is needed. just the ability to talk fast...
Please reply with any 16 bars you have written. Since you believe it takes no skill whatsoever I expect that this will be good stuff!

It must be nice to be a trust fund baby and to have NEVER faced adversity or a challenge in your life.
The rest of us can relate to a song about hard work and never giving up to achieve your dreams.
If you listened to it for the first time ever based on something you saw in Runner's World about it being a running anthem, then I am compelled to inform you that the song was a hit when used in Eminem's movie 8 Mile. It was relevant to his success in a rap battle. Thankfully it's generic enough to be applied to succeeding in many things, but it's a little unfair to judge it based on its application to running alone.
There may be some terrible rap songs and rappers out there, but I don't think it's fair to argue Eminem as a musician is less talented than the bulk of artists in other genres. Eminem's lyrics, pace, and delivery require that his song have about three times the amount of things going on (complexity) as that of most other genres. The music (instrumental) is probably the weakest part of his artistry, but as a rapper that's not supposed to be his forte.
I'm more concerned about the autobiographical component of RW's "writers".

This. Nothing screams "I'm an old fart" more than raging about how bad rap is whilst knowing nothing about it. Can't blame them though, they probably tried but couldn't figure out out to work their ipod.

I found rap music to be so repulsive that I never had any intention of listening to it. I wouldn't imagine a coach playing ANY music to motivate a team, especially subjecting them to repeated playing of it. After reading the article, it doesn't seem to be a tool that any coach should use regardless of the genre of music.
You really make it obvious that you're young. You cannot even spell "dear" correctly. Do us all a favor and go back to playing with yourself.

Rap music is for the hoodlum blacks! Give me Perry Como and that old doodle oodle oodle. Give me that Chattanooga Choo Choo. Now THAT was music, boy, I tell ya.

The tractor wasn't invented until 27 years after the confederate war ended.
