JS can handle it.
Muir was stupid to lead in 65+ then slow it down to 71+. That was not the best tactic but she can believe it was.
She unnecessarily pushed JS a few times but it came back to bite LM in her Scottish bum.
It was good that Hassan left the inside open at the end. That's another error on her part but great for the jewel of the tiara JS.
Oh and another reason to practice some barefoot running on the track is to keep your feet from tearing up like what happened to JS 2 years ago.

first, I wish I could give you a thumbs up for that drift comment:
second: How the heck to I do a reply like that, my comments are always dumped to the end of the thread.
YLMaia,
Muir used her top gear to blow by Jenny with 220 remaining. Jenny showed her top gear with 80 left.
Final turn, the live NBC, feet shows the front 3, and Jenny is out of the picture. And I'm screaming "don't QUIT"

Everything in question happened just after Hassan had enough of the slow pace entering the final turn on the penultimate lap:
* Kipyegon covered the move and initially settled behind Hassan on the inside lane line
* Simpson was determined to stay in touch. The camera angle isn't ideal from a distance but she appeared to cut inside and slightly bully Bahta, who was also surging but forced to briefly stall based on Simpson's move. This is undoubtedly what the Swedish press is upset about.
* Late in the turn Kipyegon decides to vacate the rail and move outside on Hassan's shoulder. This opens up the rail and Simpson quickly moves left to take it. Muir was slightly further back on the rail and had just started to accelerate when Simpson turned left in front of her. That prompted the first shove from Muir. However, Simpson did not see Muir or appear to hinder her intentionally. It was only Muir's sudden uptick in pace to match the acceleration of Hassan and Kipyegon a few meters in front that caused the traffic issue.
* Dibaba suddenly decided to make herself relevant for the only brief period during the race. She departed the rail and blatantly elbowed Bahta outwards. That was just after Bahta had regrouped following the Simpson episode. Dibaba's greeting was physically worse but Bahta was mostly cruising at that point. Bahta was accelerating at the time of the Simpson exchange so that's why the Swedish press prefers to focus there.
* Then things settled during the straightaway before the final lap

I actually saw the opposite, Jennifer Simpson pushing Laura making her have to move around. And i was listenning to IAAF live feed... I did not notice any comment.
Laura fights hard and deserves credit for running so brave.
Simpson literally pushed her way between Muir and Bahta (???). If someone had of fallen she would have been DQ'd.
Muir lost it with her second lap - at least 4-5 seconds too slow. This meant that she was passed on the third lap by half the field, who were all feeling pretty comfortable at this point, and coming up to the bell she had to push, shove and slow down a lot in order to be able to move wide and have a clear run to the bell. This explains why she ran out of stuff in the last 80. Didn't see why she would want to lead at such a slow pace.
Simpson ran her usual clever race but never really gave herself the chance to win gold.
It didn't strike me as an especially rough race.
Simpson cut in on her

Yeah. You Brits should boo her next time she's in the UK.
Jenny's a great racer and is always in contention. Not sure why many runners choose to go close to the rail. Running on the leaders shoulder is a good spot or even the second lane so trouble can be avoided. Nothing good happens at the back of a race. Being in contention means leading a fast race or running close to the front in the outside of lane 1 or lane 2.
Laura won the bronze in the WOMENS 1500 so good for her

Here is a rare look at the race, focusing on Bahta, but this clip has some new camera angles never shown on TV. Enjoy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6LkbMrsEQESimpson was cutting her off. Muir was just holding her ground.
THis is the truth! The IAAF has got to clean the women's sport up. America will undoubtedly have some transgenders running soon.
Bahata gave Jenny a nice push forward. Great anticipation by Jenny. Too aggressive, too early by Muir, shot her load. If the men were taken out of the race, Muir gets a medal. Unfortunate.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
