Which accent? Southern counties? Liverpool? Yorkshire? Cockney? Geordie? Welsh? Scottish? Glasgow hillbilly? Orkney raw? Or the completely indecipherable Northern Irish?
this one was one of the best
Great impression of an English accent. Can't stop laughing! 😂

Whichever one of those Brad Pitt uses in Snatch.

I think not.
Probably more likely to say "I'm British". But might say "Brit".
Have definitely never said "I'm a Briton". Sounds a bit weird.
It's really only hillbillies that think this way.

As in "Beverly?"

We usually encounter the accent in association with the royal family, James Bond movies, Harry Potter, and successful British people visiting the country. We never encounter the [regional or working-class dialects] that might bring the accent down to earth.
Agree w/above... my liking of it also came from a grade-school English lesson, which exposed me to some terms used in contrast to ours (e.g. boot, chemist)-- I found that completely fascinating.
Anyone notice in Frasier that Daphne had a (bad) Northern accent but her brother somehow had a cockney accent
Too funny:
Because kids always like the sound of mommy's voice.
During my one time in the USA I was told I sounded like various people but Tom Jones and Richard Burton were geographically pretty accurate even though I can't hear that myself.

I also like British singers. You can actually understand the lyrics when they sing. Oddly, I don't detect an accent while they are singing, but if I hear a song by someone new and later find out they are British, I usually think, "so that's why I could understand them..."
When I was in London earlier this year, most of the "Brits" I talked to had a decidedly Arabic or Urdu accent.

OP here. I live in a college town in NY which has a fairly large number of Brits living there - most work at the university. We do, indeed, refer to ourselves as Brits.
As for the poster who said my accent should be waning after 15 years here - I moved here at age 40. My accent is too deeply ingrained. My kids' accents are another matter, though.

I'm a Brit, living in the USA. Have been here 15 years. Nearly daily I get compliments on my accent, which is very nice, of course. What's behind this? Why do so many here like the accent? I truly don't get it. Personally, I think most Brits sound stupid.
Not a troll post, though I imagine I'll get replies that sssume otherwise
I went to England with my soccer team when I was young and all of the Brits were fascinated with us. Same reasons. Just something different.
Furthermore, depends on the brit accent. I'm blow away at how many disctint accents there are in the UK given that it's such a small geographical region. Some brit accents sound like the epitome of elite sophistication, others not so much.
