I can't recommend this book enough. If you had no other resources and used this book faithfully you'd be light years ahead of most people. You clearly have significant natural ability, at some point the focus is just specificity / effectiveness of training.
I'll share a theory I possess as a runner / biker. The amount of impact of running makes the total dosage that one can reasonably consume quite limiting. Certain physiological adaptations - capillary development as an example - dont occur until 1-2 hours into exertion. This is very difficult to regularly achieve in running. I suspect with age this type of cross training would be immensely useful in running. I could be wrong :).
