This HS girl that i work with some had a meet last thursday. She said her foot hurt a bit after the 1600 and i asked if she wanted to wear training shoes just to be safer in the 3200. Also obv not running was discussed but they were in a close meet and the points were important which is somewhat out of my and her hands ugh. So she starts and runs the 3200 and her foot hurts throughout- the other coach and i kept asking her if she wanted to stop but obv she didnt. Afterwards it hurt a lot obv and we iced it and ibued and sent her to doctor the next day for xray and then he said bone scan.
So obv it turns out she has a stress fracture and is out for 6 weeks and i feel like shit for letting her run 3200/not stopping her although maybe it was already cracked before 3200.
The point of this though is have other people had a stress fracture with no advance warning like that? Its like she was completely fine and then an hour later she has a stress fracture- that just seems crazy to me normally its a soreness over at least a couple days?!?! I mean i guess a bone can crack any time but jesus. Btw this is a metatarsal SF.
The cause is obvious cuz her mileage is like half of what it was 2-4-6 months ago(which is another reason that i didnt think of SF) but theyve had multiple meets (4 meets in 8 days due to a rainout earlier). So if u want to yell about me being an idiot etc feel free and i know its stupid to have so many meets in a row but i cant do anything about that and only have partial input into events within the meet. I just cant/couldnt beleive that u can go from feeling fine to stress fracture in the space of 45 minutes.
