I'm sure he did regret it. He has a worthless degree that no employer will respect.
History & political science is a worthless degree at most universities. That degree will work for a number of jobs that simply require some kind of college degree. It would work great if it was from Harvard and get you into government or politics. It suffices if you're going on to law school anyway.
I should add that there are many less useful degrees, including any that end with the word "studies."
