D2 GOAT kicks from last to third
D2 GOAT kicks from last to third
That is how 800/mile races are won. 90/95 percent max during the first half of the race, and then going max coming off of the bend, because most of the front runners are going to be dead in the legs.
1:44.95. His PRs keep coming
Great kick. Terrible tactics.
It's like Robby Andrews. That guy has an amazing kick but every race he goes into the final lap at the back of the pack. Finally yesterday he's in third at the bell and look what happened. Good tactics = victory.
Nope. He made the team, that is a huge W for him.

BTW, the top 3 were the guys who could handle a sub-53 bell lap. All ran positive split ~51/52-mid
Seems like a great dude. Love how he takes the torch from Nick in this interview:
Eric, Eric, Eric, not only did you make the race for Donovan you chowed and lost to a Windle. Didn't you watch Ben yesterday?
There is a new Bison in the stable. Go Windle!! A PR on the big stage. I like it.

I'm glad at least one Brooks Beast athlete did well.
He really plays that DII card hard #IchoseDII
Ohio middle distance game too strong

Windle (the guy we're talking about) was dead last at his bell. And stayed there for a long while on the second lap too. And made the team and ran a PB
I knew it was setting up well for him because Sowinksi had taken it out fast. If Windle had tried to be up with Sowinski and Brazier at the bell, he wouldn't be going to London. That's not good tactics.
The real problem is when kickers don't adjust early enough in a race with a pace that's too slow for people to die.

Nope. Great tactics and great kick. He made the team, and ran a tactically smart race according to his own strengths. He's a kicker, and he very successfully kicked.
Saw him at Nats a few years ago and thought to myself this guy could be pretty good. Glad to see he's almost there. 🙃
It sounded in the interview like he regretted Ashland. Didn't talk about Ashland really.

I'm sure he did regret it. He has a worthless degree that no employer will respect.

What do you mean "Great tactics"? Horrible execution and waste of a great kick. First off, you KICK TO WIN!!! Not for 2nd or 3rd. Not to take away from him running a great time and making the team but you don't race for 3rd. This dude is a great talent and I'm sure he and his coach will adjust his racing strategy accordingly. If he would of started his build up down the back stretch and put himself in striking range at 200m or 150m he would be the national champion, have run 1:43 and change, and a few thousand dollars richer.
Its all good though, congrats to him for making the team and running a great time. He will run 1:43 this season.
letsrun rule for the 800. First white dude gets the most attention.

I guess the tactics are debatable in this race because of the optics, going from last to first looks weird and seems stupid in hindsight; but he PRd and tactics have to be tailored to the individual, so it would seem his tactics were right on the day.
As the old adage goes, stay up front in a slow race, in the back in a fast race, and for a 1:45 guy a 51-52 first lap is a fast race.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
