Checking back here after my post this morning. Seems like the race is playing into Mockos hands with Jim blowing up in the heat.

In the sun, a breathable white shirt is the best tactic. When cloudy, no shirt.

What's the verdict on singlets? Shouldn't they run shirtless in this heat? Surely the chafing with a singlet has to be a concern. Cooler too, just slap on some sunscreen.

Funny jokes, but he's only 56 minutes ahead. Anything can happen. Word is that he is having a rough time and irunfar says he's running less smooth than last year. The race just started and Walmsley is probably worried.
He is now 43 minutes ahead. Sandes made up 10 minutes on him in the last 8.5 miles.
I can actually see Mocko winning this
Sandes has closed 10 minutes on JW in the last 8.5 miles.

Agree...he has the best speed of anyone except maybe Jim, but Jim is blowing up.
Ryan Sandes actually closing the gap on Jim by over a minute per mile now.
Sandes is such a wild card.
Where is Jeff Browning and Ian Sharman? I wouldn't be surprised to see either one of them Top 5 by the end of the race.
ive read jim walmsley takes in only sugar-coke, gels, etc. maybe a strong fire would burn for this fuel at 100k but wouldnt you want some form of protein (jerky, krave) just to change up your fuel burning?
btw thanks to all for the updates too bad we cant watch this like usatfs

Yes, he seems to be missing something important to get him through 14 hours of hard effort. He bonks because his body can only go so long without something other then sugar and gels.
One of these years Walmsey will go for broke again and take it all the way through. He is 27 and has many more years to pull out an incredible performance.
I am not sure if it takes balls or is just moronic to go out at the pace Walmsley did given the heat. I guess you just go with a "well if I blowup, I blowup" mentality, which is kind of awesome old-school running in a way
Super excited to see YiOu Wang out front and looking good. iRunFar - "Kaci not looking so hot, YiOu looking money"
Cat Bradley under 1 minute back and looking good as well
Walmsley bonked at 70. He did not respect the heat. That's like bonking at 16 in a marathon. He gave today's race away.
Cat Bradley has been moving up big and looks great a minute behind Yiou.

I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
