It's begun. There is no live video feed of the start like last year.
The runners will hit slushy snow for the first 16 or so miles then later the heat will be close to 100 degrees in the day.

Can we talk about Ryan Sandes aka Hedgie the South African with good looks?
I've never heard of him but he has a book out called Trail Blazer, is sponsored by Redbull and has won all
our first glimpse of the savage at the front
Jim is already 3 minutes up on Elov Olsson, the only person who has said he will chase Jim from the start.
Actually, Olsson is already 7 minutes back in second.
Elov, DNF
Watch for Chris Mocko to hang back and give Jim a challenge towards the end.
Herron led by 3 minutes over pack of Wang, Lickteig, and Boulet over the Escarpment.
Going uphill like it's a short mountain race.

From what I've seen the women are more steady in their efforts and rarely do you see big changes.
I predict, Wang hunting down Herron, placing Herron into eventual 3rd place and Kaci or Magda in 2nd and 4th.
Very plausible outcome.
How mad are all his competitors going to be when he craps on them after him being embarrassingly drunk in the interview just prior to the race? Dude can even get sloshed drunk and outperform everyone.

You mean physically crapping on his competitors, like beer poop? The closest someone is to him right now is probably 1 mile. That would have to be a pretty powerful bout of diarrhea to reach that Swede.
Mocko is a cool dude, but he's shooting for sub 16 hours. Only way he catches Jim is if Jim totally bonks or gets lost again.
At what time in the day does Bronco Billy start to sweep up the mess?
3ish: around Foresthill
Whatever Dude.

Seriously, where are the updates???? Whos in what place it's been hours and nobody.
I really enjoyed Mocko's interview, it's hard not to pull for him - seems like a really down to earth and personable fellow. I guess he's announcing that he's with Nike today which is pretty cool considering he's only been a 'pro' runner this year and at age 31 it's quite something to leave a solid IT job to become a trail runner. I'd really like to see a joint interview with Walmsley & Mocko (done by Meagan Hicks). It would be a riot.
I'm weirdly fascinated by this race. Keep the updates coming.
