To be honest with you, they earned so much money from this 'stunt' they afford to do it again and still end with a profit. Also, although it won't be official, people will remember even in a hundred years about that guy who first broke the 2-hour barrier. While Kimetto's mark will be long gone. They can only get benefits out of it.
I don't if you can quantify how much they earned for it but it did get a lot of publicity. (mostly for LRC calling it stupid and talking about it so much)
Part of it was the novelty of the attempt which will wear off.
But sub two is still out there. Maybe more people believe it's with in reach and will tune in.
I'd really hate to see the first sub two be unofficial, though.
It would be so much better if the first sub two is a ratified record.
