So how's the season going?
Not that good lol. Got injured with some patellar tendinitis so the mileage dropped considerably for about 3 weeks (75-80 down to 45-55) and it took a lot out of me. Had to take a while to get back up there but I'm at 65-70 now which is better. The season has been weird though, every race my team has gone to has been slow by 40 seconds to a minute compared to previous years. I think once conference and regionals roll around I'll be closing in on 26 low, and salvage the disappointment this season has been so far.
I've gotten a pretty good start to the season so far. Ran a 33:03 community 10k in late September followed up by a 25:53 8k (1s PR) the next week in my season opener. I ran a low-key 8k last week - 26:11 which was a great performance given how relaxed I was.
I've only been doing 'real' workouts since late September and have maintained my mileage (except for this week), so I feel that I have a lot of room left to improve through the season.
I may or may not be racing tomorrow - I got pretty sick earlier this week and am still recovering from that. Otherwise I have three more races, ending with a 10k in mid November.
Had a good workout that shows a lot of improvement from last year. 3x5' with 3' jog. Slowed pace/distance was .59 (5:05 pace) and fastest was .62 (4:50 pace.) Did this with my teammate who dropped me last year while we were running a lot slower on a loop with a couple downhill portions. I ended up running 26:34 on a pretty slow course a couple weeks later for my conference meet. So if all goes well, I should see a big result on my home course.
I think the jump in mileage the last couple weeks brought my fitness back quickly, so I'm more confident in my training and racing ability these last few meets.
