And we see how that is paying off for him with his decision making...
Lesson: Don't be a trump, sleep for 9hrs.

Have you ruled out the possibility that your spouse is a vampire?
Yes Im bragging no i dont care wrote:

I had not considered it, and I don't know much about vampire lore... my spouse sleeps at night, though...
...but does take daytime naps... hmm...
My wife sleeps a lot too. I don't count the hours she sleeps because it means very little to me how much she sleeps.
My wife is pretty lean and probably has anemia. She gets stressed a lot and she also bleeds a ton during her monthlies so that takes a toll on her energy.

FWIW, I didn't count any hours, either. That seems creepy/passive-aggressive.
I just happened to notice our "avg. hours slept" on a side-by-side on our phones. (We were comparing Resting HR, actually; we are both very active.)
best responses so far: cat and vampire. carry on.
My wife sleeps 9-11 hours per night.
She's very high energy and driven and is going pedal to the metal all the time she's awake, and never touches caffeine. She's never goofed off a second in her life. But she does like her sleep.
I'm real laid back and phlegmatic. I couldn't sleep past 5 AM if you paid me to and get 5-7 hours sleep per night.
Different folks are different.
MY WIFE SLEEPS 9 HOURS A NIGHTi average about 8.5 per week when I'm training. Some weekends I get 10-11 hours per nightneither of us have been sick or to a doctor in over 10 years.....sleep is the most important thing to your healthit's extremely healthy and normal to get lots of sleep too. if anything, you should try to sleep more pal

How is it possible to sleep for 9 hours a pop? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? (This is not a new development, btw. We have been married for 15 years.)
that would be great wrote:
I would love to get 9 hours sleep a night, sounds heavenly.
+1
If you are looking at the garmin activity tracker, look at how much time is spent in deep sleep. if spouse wakes up a couple of times a night then it's likely she's not getting enough deep sleep so she has to have more.
i found if i can sleep from 10 to 3am without waking up, i'm way more rested than if i sleep say from 10-1:00, back to sleep at 1:30, back up at 4:30.
Some adults are 4'11" or shorter. Some are 6'6" or taller. Most women are around 5'3" to 5'6", and most men are 5'8" to 5'11".
On average, adults need about 8 hours of sleep a night. Some are very comfortable with only 7 hours, or even with 6 hours. Others need 9 hours or more and are tired on 8.
Just natural variance. Your spouse may simply be on the high end of the bell curve.

Is she tired during the day despite all of the sleep? I used to sleep 9+ hours a day plus naps and still be exhausted. Went to see an ENT doctor and found out I had 80% blockage of my nose because of a deviated septum. Got surgery, two weeks later, I slept better and had more energy than I ever did in my life up to that point.

You should take some Robitussin for that.
9 hours a day isn't too much. How much sleep people need is quite variable. Sleep is one of those things we don't completely understand, why does one person feel completely rested at 7 hours and another need 9? We don't really know. I have a friend of mine who did a lot of research into sleep for college. If I remember what he told me for an adult anywhere between 6-10 hours can be normal and healthy depending on the individual. Less than six is never good for you and more than 10ish (for an adult) can indicate a medical problem or possibly depression.
My spouse feels best around 9 hours. If I am caught up on sleep I can usually only sleep about 7. Work is very busy for me so I often go with about 5 hours a night for days at a time.
Each person is different. some only need 4 1/2 hours, some need 10 hours.
You people are bigots for gendering the OP and OP's spouse, as well as for assuming a cis-gendered heteronormative relationship.

The majority of posters did not assume gender. You are over generalizing with "you people".
In fact, I think you, the OP (MorningRunner), and RegularPoster are the same person just having fun.
As for the question, yes 9+ hours is normal for some people. Especially when their spouse spends too much time on letsrun.
