I'm not even sure what that means.
Already out on free streaming sites in HD. Saw the trailer for it and passed on watching it. Kind of has millennial narcissism nauseating feel to it.
Former duck here. I enjoyed the Eugene nostalgia and thought it was a decent movie. A damn impressive effort to get it funded, made, and distributed. Papas' acting was pretty good. I was impressed. I didnt like her love interest though. He was creepy, slicked back reddish hair, dark boy-like mustache, and brown teeth. There was zero chemistry between them. His acting was terrible and one dimensional.
The New York Times does NOT review "all movies that are screened in a NYC theater." They don't have enough staff or space in the paper for that. There is still a selection process that occurs, and for the cynical among us that leaves plenty of room for favoritism, nepotism, or other skullduggery.

Why is it that when we get a runner who tries to be marketable fellow track fans feel compelled to tear them down.
We need more athletes like Alexi to at least try to get our sport nearer to the mainstream
Gimmick races and personalities might be what we need to save our sport from oblivion.
Alexi does not care one bit about the sport, or anyone but herself. Her ego is big enough already that we are not obligated to make it bigger. She is already a world class film producer, in her own words.

Some of you may have thought it came out last year - but that was just a screening last June. It's officialy out now for the public to see. Here is where you can see it in person.

A successful female... AND someone spending time on anything outside of competitive running. Definitely not for the letsrun crowd.
Was shocked to see her expose herself in the movie, tbh. Was NOT expecting that, nor was I complaining lol.
It perplexes me why some of the people on this site have such a beef with Alexi Pappas. Seems like a lot of people have some sort of personal problem with her and are projecting that anger onto her film. Personally, I haven't seen it yet, but a quick internet search reveals it isn't nearly as bad as some of the above commenters claim:
77% on Rotten Tomatoes (10 positive reviews, 3 negative reviews)
6.6/10 on IMDB
64/100 on Metacritic
Seems like this movie falls in the "Decent/Pretty Good" category. Fair enough. I'll watch it with the proper set of expectations.

Wow! You're being so nice to her. I'm sure she'll have sex with you now bro.
For the love of God, please go away. She's truly a gift that keeps on giving.

Let me fill you in:
* Her NYT articles were cringeworthy
* Her "world class" comment was tonedeaf
* She abused citizenship rules to run for a country she had never been to
* Her short videos released last year were cringeworthy
* Her poetry is not good, and she took months to respond back to a magazine requesting it
* She doesn't acknowledge any runner or anything but her
You keep kissing up to her if you want. She is not owed any respect from the rest of us.
I just watched it. It's a good movie which runners will think is a very good movie because the drama is set against the backdrop of running. If you've seen it, leave a review. If not, withhold judgement until you see it.

Please tell US why you spend your time reading her comments, articles and poetry, and watch her vids. As you state, you hate them with 100% of your tiny soul. Why are you so self-abusive???

As I am not a psychic, I didn't know they were so bad until after I had read and watched them.

Please tell the truth. Why do you abuse yourself?

I rallied after a long week and went to the 10:15pm showing in NYC. I joined the 5 other people in the theater.
Reminds me of the time I went to a late showing of the Prefontaine film "Without Limits". I was the ONLY one in the theatre!

I think this is about right. I thought the film was pretty solid, though it definitely had some flaws. It's in that genre of indie film where boy and girl meet and everything happens in the course of one or two days (e.g., Garden State). Not really a conventional Hollywood structure. The male love interest and the mother were pretty bad. Alexi and her dad were pretty good. As for the running, there was almost none in the actual film, but it did offer a reasonably authentic look at the psychology of a high level runner (or at least a certain type of runner whom most of us have encountered before). The script was good, and not nearly as overwrought as I feared. It was fun spotting the cameos.
If you're predisposed to hate anything associated with Alexi Pappas, it'll be easy to mock the film, but for a runner with an open mind, I think it's worth the hour and a half.
I like Alexi, but I think her success is built more on cult of personality rather than actual artistic ability. Every article or press release that mentions her talks about how she combines elite running with her filmmaking and writing pursuits, rather than the actual content of what is being written or produced. Everyone seems to be more impressed with how she's built a life around these separate things, instead of the actual merits of her creative work. I'm not sure if she would be such a celebrated figure if she was just "a runner" or "a filmmaker," it's the combination of those that's impressive, even if the results are mediocre.
For what it's worth, it was a sweet, harmless, forgettable movie.

You don't have any understanding of what makes a movie star or music star. All the artistic ability in the world will not make a star out of a person with no personality. That is a simple fact of life, son.
