Simply put one type of runners do it for fun exclusively. The other type of runners train to perform the best they can.
Obviously there can be subcategories of these groups based on age, speed, gendern so on...but simply put there really are only two off the bat.
Those who train with a purpose to be the best they can be and those who just run simply to run. At anytime one can move between the two groups once they've altered their purpose of the run.
There are actually two types of runners only!

There is only one race: the Human Race. If there is only one race, why do we need two kinds of runners?
There is only one kind of runner: Human Runners. -
Even more simply put either those who care about training when they lace up or don't care about their training when they lace up.
-
What if I run because I enjoy it, have fun doing it and love socialising with other runners, but also train hard with the express intent to become the fastest I can be?
You can be both. -
I thought it would be obvious you could be both, but don't kid yourself into thinking you don't emphasize one over the other. That's the difference.
-
What if I run to satisfy my fetish for pooping my pants in public? I could just do it intentionally, but it feels more like a real "accident" to throw down a quart of milk and then run until my sphincter fails.
I think this should be a third category. -
Honestly it's a spectrum, and changes over the years. Now I am 80-20 towards enjoyment over performance, but my career as a whole has been 50-50.

You forgot the third type, which is what I currently am: former second group who got injured and can't PR because of that anymore, but still runs so they don't get fat, even if they hate almost every step of it. -

What about dog runners? -
What about the 28 minute 5k crowd that are training to get faster and want to get faster but only runs 10-15 miles per week. Which category do they fall in?

So you are saying that running identification is fluid? Could it also be non-binary? Just sayin'. -
There are 10 kinds of runners. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Oh also who fvcking cares. -

I can't simplify it any better than this. Anything outside of this becomes subcategories.
There's many subcategories after falling into one of the two main choices.
Ask yourself, "Do I care about how I train during my run?" -
Two kinds of runners:
1. Those faster than me (drugged up genetic freaks).
2. Those slower than me (no-talent hobby joggers who need to quit). -

These threads about categorisation(sorry for spelling) of runners, or categorisation of anything, are so ******* worthless...
Also you are wrong, there are runners who run for health and there could be runners that run for a bunch of other stuffs. Maybe they want to get in shape for millitary...
My point? this thread is **** -

You're doing it wrong. Not getting fat is 70-80% diet. Exercise is more for quality of life. -

Those are called subcategories and it's 'categorization'. You're welcome -

1. Those who get letsrun
2. Those who do not -

Your post is more stupid than op because obviously they aren't subcategories... Subcategories, since you don't seem to understand, are more detailed categories with all content also being part of the original category. -
I thought you were going to say Country and Western.
