Scientifically? I want to read it but reviews are scarce.
It's numbers. I use the analogy of basketball players from the U.S.
People all over the world wonder why the NBA is so much better than any other league, or why our country produces so many superior basketball players than any other country.
Same for distance running in Kenya. In America, the biggest sport in inner cities is basketball. Then high school, some of the better players start to rise to the top. Then in college the even better players are noticed. Of those, maybe 5% make it to the NBA. the principle applies to Kenyan distance runners.
Over there, long distance running is very very popular in the youth. they run to school, work, neighbors, etc. Of those thousands and thousands, some are good enough to run in competition in their area. Of those, maybe 10% are considered good enough to compete on their teams. Many of those decode to come to America, where the slower white people pay very well to run mediocre times. All they need to do is win a few races, save the $$ and come back to Kenya and own a farm and be set forever.
So, in short, we see the best of the best, and in the NBA, the world sees the best of the best of our sport.
Take those same athletes that play basketball everyday and get them interested in soccer, and this country would dominate.

That's right. When you have just emerged from the Stone Age your race will have all ends of the spectrum covered according to their location.
That's why Pygmy people still exist there. You ever see Pygmy enclaves in civilized countries?
One of the most popular sport in Kenya is distance running. In the US, distance running is hardly recognized as a sport. If you took a percentage of children who play sports, less than 1% would compete in track and field. I would guess the majority of male children choose(or are influenced) to play football, while most females would play soccer.
Imagine if the number of children who chose to take up running was a much higher number like Kenya, possibly 30%(estimate), then we would see a much greater depth in US distance running.
A similar question can be asked for most countries:
Why are Canadians so good at hockey?
Why are Kiwis so good at rugby?
Why are South Americans so good at soccer?
For the same reason the US doesn't have a good cricket team, it is not part of our culture, or a desired sport to play.
The Kalenjin and the other members of the black horde are hard.
Most of the mzungu like you are soft, very soft.
There have been one or two exceptions e.g. Wariner, Wells but on the whole this simple and effective analysis explains everything you need to know.
Maybe because they're averaging more than 40mpw at 7 years old.
This should read "Why are Kenyans from the Great Rift Valley so fast." It's not a coincidence that nearly all come from one particular area in Kenya. So here are some observations that lead to their success...
1. Altitude
2. Ideal weather all year round
3. Physical lifestyle (farmers and run as means of travel at a young age)
4. Genetics (thin body structures)
5. Drive (running is their pro sport that will make them "rich")
6. Group mentality (They train in large groups and feed off of each other's intensity)
7. They run at correct intensities in order to get a stimulus but recover too.
The thing is all of these factors could be applied to top Ethiopian too.
