That's amazing off 10 mpw. What did you do in college? I'd imagine you went well under 3:40 in the 1500 with typical college training.
I probably averaged 45-60 mpw in season, 60-80 mpw in Summer when I was actually training. Sophomore year fractured foot and missed track season. Junior year had a decent xc season, then got the dreaded "loss of control" syndrome in my left leg, causing me to miss indoor and outdoor. Was never quite the same again after that, but it improved enough to allow me to train and race senior year. Went 2:08 800, 4:32 1600, 9:47 3200.
45 mpw in season

With all due respect, your mile/two mile are so much better than
your half. Maybe you hardly ran the half?

Pre internet age. Played four sports year round and lived on a farm. High school track coach was my head football coach. No other distance runners on the team. Moved up to the 1600 my senior year and did the 3200 twice.
800m 2:00.8x
1600m 4:33.9x
3200m 10:02:xx
This was me lol. No XC in the fall, busy quarterbacking the football team. Maybe went on an extended "run" (30min of continuous running) once or twice per week. I only ran distance my senior year when I realized I would never qualify for state in the LJ or 300IH.
50 split on the 4x4
202 800m
444 1600m
1012 3200m
The following January I opened up indoor TF running 425/850 for mile/3K. Amazing what a fall of college XC did for me!
How did the rest of your college career go?

Problem? I can assure you that my HS times are real. I don't want to give away too many details so I am outed on this board, but I also had a successful college career that included earning 8 All American certificates including 2 top 3 finishes in the 10k, 2 top 3 finishes in the 5k, and a top 5 CC finish to name a few. By the way, I am not even in the top 3 as far as best runner that my HS has produced.
Why does everyone run so many miles.
I've done 30-40 miles per week all high school so far and I've run 4:18 so far i'm a junior this year and already feeling faster. I ran 4:40 as a freshmen. So what the heck
Six miles a week
800: 1:51.33
400: 49.1
Anchored 4x1 and 4x4 relay teams
Adjusting to running 40 mpw in college wasn't easy.
30-40 miles per week
4:20 1600m
8:39 3k
9:20 3200
15:13 5k track
Always injured had 18 weeks of training and achieved these times.
Me
20 mpw freshman year
452 mile
30 mpw sophomore year
440 mile / 1030 (3200)
50 mpw junior year
428 mile / 958 (3200)
2 hours of Biking (M,T,W)
70mpw senior year
417 mile / 934 (3200)
2 hours of Biking (M,T,W)
Started running track my junior year:
Junior: 10 - 15 mpw
400m: 50.xx
800m: 1:54high
1600m: 4:19
Senior: 30 - 35 mpw (I ran 70 once over the summer to see if I could run 10/day).
Cross: 15:10 ish.
400m: 49point
800m: 1:52
1600m: 4:10
3200m: 9:02
Slowly built up my mpw in college and had an okay college career.
Started running as a sophomore. Maximum 45 mpw during off-season base training. Around 30 mpw during the season (maybe a few extra miles for XC).
800 = 1:58
1600 = 4:16
3200 = 9:27
5K (XC) = 15:24
Don't have training logs, going off of memory.
Fr: probably 25-30 mpw. 2:28 800 / 4:59 1600 / 11:00 3200 / 18:15 5K
So: 30-35 mpw. 2:11 / 4:49 / 10:10 / 17:00
Jr: 30-35. 2:06 / 4:37 / 10:20 / 16:35
Sr: 20-25. 2:04 / 4:33 / 10:12 / 16:45
3 different coaches, one for Fr-So, second for Jr, last for Sr. The last coach was a shot-put guy so lower mileage and more speedwork.
Honestly I'm kind of surprised at the 70-80 mile weeks high school for some of you guys. I imagine 95% or more ran (and still run) about what I did. Not denigrating, good for you!
In college I ran 60 miles per week, ran 4:15 (1500) and 16:25, basically the exact same times as high school, and was injured constantly. Quite frustrating and my interest level in running went down accordingly. The only positive benefit of the higher miles for me was quicker recovery between races.
