There's tons of money for track. Most of the posters on this site are slow hobby joggers and didn't earn any money.

This is the most depressing thread I have ever read in my life! out of all the pose I saw ONE that was an athletic full ride. Is this because of title IX or are men just disposable? so disheartening.
Probably need to be sub-4:10/9:00 to be considered for a full at a good school. I wonder what the standards are for women?

Went to the top program for about 70% scholarship. Could have gone full ride at the time anywhere else, but I wanted to win NCAA titles

Was going to walk-on, but then got books after running the 2:11 senior year in June. Just for comparison, another girl on my team in my class had nearly identical HS PR's to me, but got 40% scholarship b/c she ran them junior year when money was still available. Got offered 80-90% scholarship b/w academics and athletics at another power 5 school (that was less good at the time) as well as a DII, but turned those down since I didn't like those schools and wanted to stay in-state.

HOWEVER, thank goodness to need-based financial aid (my parents didn't make much)....
it was more affordable to go to Cornell than to go to a public state school (Oregon state) for me. Also got some lucky grants and other academic merit/scholarships to help.

It's all about negotiation/maximizing potential.
Good thread.
But, as I read these, the thing that's missing is the school.
For example, in the DC area there are all sorts of D1 programs in terms of academics and track & field.
Top of the heap would be places like Georgetown and UVA.
Further down the pecking order would be places like George Mason, American U, etc.
There's also Norfolk State, etc.
So, saying you got 50% at Norfolk State is very different from getting 50% at G'town.

Just got around to seeing this thread. There was less than 20 posts on it last time I looked. I guess this post will bring it back so this years incoming college runners can post. Have at it!
