So I'm a 20 y/o college student and was thinking about picking up running since I've got a lot of free time on my hands. So since I'm quite a competitive person, I'm thinking about training for a specific distance so I can start competing in some amateur races. I've never trained but I've always been quite decent when it comes to endurance but absolutely terrible when it comes to short distances. In high school we had to do a 2400m race every year, I could see how I improved every year by a minute or so and as a senior I did it in 9 minutes. We also had to do short distances, I got about 13 seconds for 80m. Based on this, is it possible to tell whether I can train for 1500m? Or am I too slow and should I go for 5000m?
