I couldn't agree more with regards to my disgust at the Rio 1500. What is the point of jogging 70% of the event and then trying really hard during the last 30%? If you are a 1500m runner, then run the effing 1500. Don't try to see who can jog at a moderate pace for 1k and sprint the fastest for the last 500 meters. How ridiculous would it be to see the same approach in the sprints? What if sprinters strided out for 70 meters and then made a mad dash for the finish line in the last 30 meters? You would be wondering what mental disorder they must all be suffering from. The whole point of distance running is that since you are not fast enough to compete with sprinters, the only thing you got is your willingness to punish yourself for a longer distance. For any running event in track, any time you don't run it as fast as you can for the entire distance, you are wasting your time and talent. You're basically just treating the race like a speed workout. You are in effect, not really racing.

The runners who approach their career with this mentality are rightfully deserving of more admiration. Mo is not such a runner, and therefor does not deserve the same admiration, regardless of his medal haul.
