This thread made me go out this morning and run a mile time-trial test to see where I sit. Age 39, ~170lb, american citizen but NOT US resident. Though I am in USA currently for work.
Just nicked under 6 with a 5:58 mile. So ego boost for me. (wouldn't call myself a runner, never ran track, never ran a race, currently on maybe 8mpw on a good week)
I think 75% of Americans are unable to hit 8:00 pace for ANY distance, no matter how much they train. Simply can’t make themselves move that fast. You might as well ask them to jump over their house as run a six minute mike. Won’t happen.
