I just saw an ad outside a cross-fit gym where they say they will give anyone a free visit if they can run 2000m in 7:20. My rough math is that's about a 5:54 mile pace (but obviously hold that pace for 2km).
My first thought was that the average person can't run under a 6 minute mile and maybe never could. I would think that anyone who can do a 2k in 7:20 is someone who runs a lot and is very unlikely to want to go to a cross-fit gym. So the ad was just stupid as it's aimed at the wrong target audience. They should have said something 8:40 so get people who are a little bit fit and can run under 7 min mile. But, maybe I am wrong?
I've been running for so long I have no personal frame of reference - how hard is it for an average person to run under a 6 minute mile? Could a lot of people just go do it or would they need to train? And, can anyone train enough so that they could run under 6 minutes for a mile?
