Yeah, good job with the treadmill miles. That's a death march for me.
Curious as I haven't followed along very well, what are you current PRs? It seems like that 1:21 and 2:53 is a little soft given training paces?

Before morning runs I do high knees and power skips etc and sterch some after runs sometimes. About it. But this week been doing singles in the afternoon so haven't even been doing that. Adductor starting to feel 90% or more
Curious if any of the regular posters here have used a personal coach in the past, and, if so, what they paid and what they were provided for that payment? Just trying to understand what the market is out there.
I have never paid for the coach. I train similar to how I trained in college. I wouldn't pay for a coach, because it doesn't take rocket science to run. I do have friends that pay anywhere from 40-80 per month for an online coach.
Agree. It's not rocket science and it's pretty easy to figure out what the good resources are in the internet age. I have never paid for a coach either (although I did pay to run with a group in the past - but more for the camaraderie than the coaching). I too base my training largely on what I did in college - although somewhat indirectly in that I am Daniels-oriented just as my college distance coach was.
Still, there seems to be a market for it. In part because I think sometimes people like or need to be told what to do, in part because I think sometimes people need to be saved from themselves (and held back a little), and in part because they are not prepared to deal with adversity or situations which they haven't experienced before.
That price range is consistent with what I was thinking of - I was thinking of it in terms of training cycles of -2 weeks or so, but with a total of 150 for the training cycle.
Yep I'm the same way. I love the social aspect of running. I just started a local running group in my area and its a blast.
I agree, a lot of people do need someone to tell them what to do. Having a coach is great for people who aren't quite as motivated too. Are you thinking about starting a coaching business?
I think so. I've coached my local Y running group in the past and am currently coaching two pretty good runners right now for free (one guy who ran OT and one woman who didn't qualify but has a legitimate shot to qualify if she gets her head right). I coach them for free since they are friends, but I think I could generate a modest amount of business. I'm a full time lawyer, so it wouldn't be intended as a full time gig or even a primary source of income. Just something to do on the side. My wife would offer nutritional guidance as a related option.
I think the fact that you'll offer nutritional guidance would make your coaching gig even more marketable. It would be a fun, and rewarding way to make a little extra money. Something to think about doing when you retire as well.
I am going to get a baseline certification before I actively market the program.
Interestingly, you really don't need any kind of certification to offer nutritional advice. It's kind of crazy. My wife is smart and very well educated, but has no formal background - just a genuine interest that evolved into becoming well informed.
If I was to go with a coach I would go with you smoove just because you always have a concrete reason for any advice. I don't think you have ever given an explanattion of something that didn't make sense to me. Probably from the experience of being a lawyer.
What kind of nutrition philosophy does your wife have? After I went plant based (occasionally eat eggs but zero meat or dairy) I noticed a huge increase in energy , running injury free, help w depression etc and legs rebounding faster in addition from going from 200-155. No moral reasons just feel it helps, and feel great.
