Hi guys, after a few months hiatus, I had started running again and have been running consistently for 18 weeks now. I started really slowly pace wise since I was really out of shape and kept the same mileage (roughly 50 miles a week) for 14 weeks as the paces started to come down. I think I may have finally gotten back into shape and the past 4 weeks actually feel like I've been ready and able to train again, mileage has been 70-70-70-80, and paces and effort have leveled off to "normal" for me in previous build ups. Everything so far has been in singles. I haven't been doing a lot of quality but have been running stronger/steady efforts instead. Have 7 long runs so far at 2hours+ at 90% MP, with a weekly workout the past month at about HMP as well. I'm signed up for a marathon in April and it seems to be coming up quick! I'd like to keep the mileage up now, and maybe build some more in March. I've been running with a group 3 days a week with some pretty good guys so my schedule is kind of at their mercy right now. Pretty much have the following routine going:
Monday - 75mins general aerobic
Tuesday - 90mins, easy first 30 mins solo then 60 mins @ ~90%MP with with the group
Wednesday - workout (ex. 35min alternating 3mins @ MP-10/ 3mins @ MP+10; 30min tempo/threshold, 6xmi progressions).
Thursday - 60min recovery
Friday - 60min recovery
Saturday - long run, 2hrs + @ 90%MP, sometimes including 10k+ @ MP
Sunday - 60min recovery.
I don't know when and where I'm taking down weeks. Last week actually felt like a down week even though there was a mileage bump. I'd like to hold 80mi for another 2 or 3 weeks, then bump it up to around 90 in March. Do you think think this schedule or mileage build up is too much? In all honesty, I overtrained at the tail end of my last training cycle, and I don't want to repeat the same mistakes. I think I know what/when I pushed myself over the edge. I took a day off last week when I felt like my body was telling me to, and I felt refreshed afterwards and resulted in a mileage bump.
