had a routine physical this past week, which included blood tests. my iron levels came back way, off the charts. i do not have the results here with me, so i can't provide any specific numbers. the doctor is having further tests run. he says that with levels as high as mine it's probably 90% that i have hemochromatosis. i'll know for sure in 2-3 weeks. i just found all of this out yesterday and am gobbling up all of the info that i can about the disease and treatment for it. doc says and from my reading that best, safest, and most effective treatment is regular donation of blood. starting at a pint once a week or twice a month to begin with to get the iron levels down to a safe and normal range. initial stage of blood donation at these rates should last 6 months to perhaps 3 years, but regular blood testing and monitoring of iron levels is essential. obviously giving up a pint of blood a week will inhibit my running. does anyone out there have this disorder and what can you tell me about it? i'm in the very early stages of learning about it and have not yet been diagnosed. thanks......scott sehon
