Yep. Trumpism is done. This was going to happen even before all the social media platforms banned him for life. The red hats love him only because he has power and spews their uneducated nonsense. When the power is removed, they will lose their love. Many of them will never vote for a Presidential candidate again. Trump has left the GOP greatly damaged. It will be interesting to see what happens going forward.
All of you guys are leaving out part of what the Constitution explicitly says. It doesn't say " convict.". No, all of you guys are leaving out a key part of what it says.." It says "convict and remove from office...". I hate to break it to you guys BUT he WON'T be in office to be removed from office. Think about it!!!
Sally, since you aren't being an utter moron here, I will respond.
What you say is up for debate among legal experts.
Here's what Stephen Vladeck, a constitutional law expert and professor at the University of Texas School of Law had to say in a CBS article:
'"But Vladeck says that another section of the Constitution – Article I, Section 3, Clause 7 – puts two questions before the Senate when it says, "Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States."
"The Constitution contemplates that the Senate can do two different things when an officer is impeached. It can remove them from office but it can also disqualify them from holding future office," he told CBS News. "The expiration of President Trump's term renders one of those moot, but not both of them."'
So, obviously if he is removed from office, that isn't the goal of a conviction, BUT it does appear it DOES allow them to go down the path of keeping him from running for office again (debate about whether an additional step is required).
