Someone can cough on you and get actual bits of moisture into your throat or nose or eyes and that would do it. But the moisture has to go through space to get there as droplet.
That's why surfaces are so dangerous - the droplets can fall from a sneezer and then just sit there until someone touches it. It's a much longer time span than just a droplet propelled from a sneezer arcing into your mouth.
