I hate to politicize a natural disaster, but Trump has already done that with his idiotic comments about Puerto Rico. I believe that this hurricane might very well save the midterms for Trump.
I expect that the federal response will be very good this time. Despite the scandal of moving money away from FEMA and the Coast Guard, they will find new money and pour everything they can into disaster recovery.
Trump knows how to put on a reality show. It's right in his wheelhouse.
The response to this hurricane definitely has a chance to help Trump if he can manage not to f*ck it up, and I agree that it is right in his wheelhouse. Florence has been downgraded to category 2 already, so that's helpful.
Not sure what your definition of saving the midterms is, but I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Republicans keep the House no matter how well this hurricane response goes. The Senate is still likely to stay in Republican control.
