As you accumulate years the individual ones lose their importance and significance.

Speaking as a dad the milestones of my kids were really more significant when they were younger. 21 is the last age that has importance and significance associated with it.
For a couple years in my early 50's I was accidentally writing my age incorrectly on race entry forms. I was off by a year. I finally realized my mistake after doing the math. Not that big a difference between 52 and 53.
What does it matter?
Same thing with your times in races. They are really important down to the second and less when you are younger. But after you have finished 25 or so 5ks or some other distance the exact time becomes less important. Especially as you slow down with age, you do not pay much attention to the difference between 18:10 and 18:14, as an example.
