Galen Rupp has had a great run over the years, but like all great runners, after the age of 30, the body just doesn't respond to hard training and begins to break down. Paula Radcliffe is a good example, injury, comeback, reinjury,
comeback.

You mean like Carlos Lopes? Or Mo Farah? Felix Sanchez? Kenny B?
It doesn't matter if you have to come back from an injury if you are as good or better than ever.
I think we are seeing a number of top marathoners break down badly after running superfast times. Kimetto has been terrible of late. Kebede is also losing speed. But Galen is so closely guarded by AlSal because he is such a rare talent for the US that I do not see much of a injury problem with him as much as it is AlSal being very protective. That being said, Galen may very well have reached his full potential on the track, but the marathon career is just beginning.
Rupp just won the bronze medal in the Olympic marathon and finished 5th in the 10 000m; is that what you call a decline? Rupp still has at least 4 or 5 good years ahead of him. Bekele just ran 2:03 in the marathon and he is 34 years old.
Come on, man. Galen suffered a not-uncommon injury. That's pretty typical and doesn't portend his future career. We have many over-30 pros still going strong and Galen's focus on longer distances may even pave the way for ultra running as he ages. I think it's very premature to speculate on his career's future right now.
Yeah, that bronze medal, what a decline...
I take it you believe that no other professional athlete has suffered an injury and needed to withdraw from a race unless it was at the very end of their career? You should read more. Guess what - sometimes, really, no joke, kids in high school get injured. Yeah. It's true. But, those same kids heal and keep running. Not joking. They even then go on to run in college AND after college even. Seriously. I know it's hard for you to believe, but, it's true. Runners get injured and it's actually common and does not signify the end of their running career.
My point really is this - you are an idiot.
Is this the first time Rupp reported PF

He won silver at the previous Olympics. If we extrapolate from that rate of decline, we can see that he won't even be top 10 in another 32 years. Stick a fork in him.

Ultrarunning? Why would he ever want to spend that many hours running?

Calm down sweet cheeks, it's only a bit of plantar fasciitis.
Like Svengali, like Favorite Son. Salazar's history is repeating itself.
Once you get PF there is no coming back. No distance runner has ever got a PR after PF

He beat Old Man Meb in the trials, then faded badly in the Olympics. Or maybe you saw a different race than I did.
And now, you and I both know he won't run Boston, and will have some lame excuse to skip fall marathons.
In fact, I believe Rupp will never again run a marathon. Nice career, but Al would have buried Rupp in his day.

Most running excuses are about being lame. You are correct on that.
