Eliminating events will reduce participation and some good athletes will go to other sports. I am not sure that is something Track/Athletics needs right now.
Also, if Pole Vaulting only gets 4 attempts, then Long Jump should get only 2.

Essentially the idea that by changing the measuring standards in athletics you can entertain the crowd. Etc. Egg and spoon race or tug of war type stuff but for elites. Think Sean Crawford racing a Zebra but without the Safari animals. While none of it is formally disclosed and the competing athletes would know minimal
