My friend and I actually had a conversation about this. The plan laid out so far is Episode 8 in 2017, Han Solo stand alone, and then Episode 9 in 2020-21, with more to follow. We both agreed that, while Han Solo is awesome, we'd rather see a Yoda or Darth Vader solo film. Darth Vader went around hunting jedi's between episodes 3 and 4, and I think it would awesome to see the more sinister side of the force, where good doesn't come out on top.
This wouldn't make a profitable movie, even though it would be an amazing film.
Disney, who owns the rights to Star Wars, would never release a Darth Vader Kill Spree movie to the box office. No kid wants to see that, and most semi-fans are looking for a feel-good action movie.
If Disney buys Netflix, then it could happen. The Netflix model is to use targeted content to appeal very strongly to small markets, with enough content to eventually cover the entire market.
The small percentage - 20%? - of fans who would love to see a Star Wars interlude with an unambiguously depressing ending might well subscribe to Netflix+Disney just for that movie alone.
