I dont fit in the Miata either, OP not necessarily suggesting it, I would go with the cayman 6MT, but you should at least test drive the Toyota 86/brz.
There are a lot of good s2000s on Autotrader and that car may actually go up in value.
My advice would be to get certified pre-owned Cayman.

Once I started looking at the Cayman more in depth the more I liked it and it is #1 on my list now. We had a sort of surreal experience at the Toyota dealer, sales guy was new there (no surprise I guess) and I knew more about the car than him. The manager would talk to me them look about the showroom floor to see what was going and not listen to my response. I was looking at the 86 and he said 'so you're looking for a Highlander...' Weird.
My personal cars have been manuals, but this will be an slush box to help save the knee for running. I was bummed that the Miata didn't fit, but now I think the Cayman will be the better choice after all.
Ha I said to a friend every time I go to a dealership (a lot lately) everyone is new and I always know more about the car.
Like walking into 3 dealerships in 1 week and every sales person introduces himself as new. Why do they do that? Shouldn't there be a sales assistant position first? But the average car buyer has very little info so I guess they can get by.
I totally understand the "preserving the left knee" thing but the pdk/dc in the Porsche won't be a slush box.
Clutch take up in VAG products high compared to Japanese cars. Although it is very low effort but the constant bending without getting the chance to fully straighten definitely hurts my knee after a while.
Not the color I'd pick but you can find good ones right around 30-40k
Drive Medical Bobcat x3 is $600 scooter that will get you to, through and back from Walmart.

You sure can and that is right where the Mazda was priced. I've even seen some 2014 base models in the mid- low 40s. For colors I like the white, silver or blue.
I liking the idea of this retirement thing.
+1 for the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ (they are the same car...developed mostly by Subaru), especially if you are on more of a budget. Not a huge engine and no turbo available (which irks some, especially Subaru enthusiasts used to the power of the WRX/STI), but has snappy steering/handling which makes it plenty fun to drive.

Going with the Cayman, have found an excellent mechanic and speciality car seller all very close to me. Now to find the right one, most likely a 2014 Base model.
Also need to make some room in the garage, but that will be some happy work.
don't get yourself killed

That's what I was going to recommend or the BMW 1 series 2 door sedan. Clarkson tried out a an orange version about 3-4 years ago said it made more sense than lots of others.

Hey retiring runner, is there a reason you chose cayman over 911? Is it the price? I'm starting to look at older 911s, but intrigued by boxster and cayman with their pricing, but if I'm getting a Porsche, there's something about wanting a 911.

About $40k worth of reasons. I'd love the 911 myself, but nothing wrong with the Cayman
I'm satisfied with my 2004 Buick Lacrosse. Seat like my lazy-boy, AM radio works great, .

BMW M4. No questions asked.
Can I use international ID for this?

you really dont have a clue do you?
Amen!
OP, get a hobby race car and actually learn how to drive, then actually drive. Maybe a formula ford? I'm certain there are cheaper ways to go.
Should have a bought a maxi scooter. Easy enough to drive for an old man and more fun than a car. You can even get heated handgrips for the cold weather!
I guess you can, at least I used one I got from https://idaoffice.org/ last month and had no issues with this. Try to consult a professional but I am 100% sure you can use your international driver's license.

OP, did you get the Cayman and if so what do you think?
If not, here's a belated suggestion: BMW 2 series--230i/228i , M240i/M235i, or M2--depending on budget and needs. Available in manual/RWD or auto/AWD, convertible, with various configurations and power levels, and would be a decent daily driver. Probably in the ballpark as a Cayman.
