Which race do you think is more competitive? I recognize a lot more 'big names' in the 4k! I like Browne or Watson to win the 4k and Culpepper to dominate the 12k!

I don't agree. I believe that more big names are in the 12k. Browne, Swanson, Johnson, Wells, and Gary are in both so they cancel themselves out. Then in the 12k you have Meb, Abdi, Culpepper, Rogers, Hauser, E Torres, Jimmerson, Weldon, Davis (that is 14).
The 12k is a much better field. You missed Jimmerson who has made the team the last 2 years and Cullum who has graduated to the real race. I am not sure all of those guys will really run both races. Probably looking to see which field is weaker, which means they will be in the 4k.
I know I am out of the loop but what happened to Tim Broe? He won the 4K last year. I was in the 4K last year and got my ass handed to me, what do you mean marathoners shouldn't be in there? It went out in a dead sprint and after the first lap I was the one dead. I guess I should have been in the 12K, but not being a REAL XC runner, I was happy to get it over with and get back to the roads, ha.
