Yeah, she has been mostly under the radar so far. For perspective, Hasay's fastest time at Woodward was 17:02 and Trotter's was 16:55.

I believe Claudia also broke Baxter's soph record at Mt Sac this year by 14 or 15 seconds - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Female distance running is an interesting beast.....With the female triad and pressure put on these young kids, its know wonder the majority fall short of expectations......
Things will change so much for these girls after puberty. Angles become less efficient, and work becomes much harder.
The article below is from a 4 year study done in the DC area and shows the facts of female HS regression as the girls get older...definitely wort a read for those who actually take interest in the science of running....

Why does it matter if they have successful NCAA or pro careers? Why do we expect some sort of linear progression from these young athletes? What is wrong with being a high school star and then moving on to other goals in life?

Fairchild, Stamps, Baxter, Trotter, etc. - all among the best high school athletes ever at their sport. Why isn't that enough?

Not that Julia Stamps running career needs any defending, but if she hadn't broken her leg in a skateboarding accident, her college career might have been very different. Post-college she had the ability and opportunity to and did earn far more on Wall Street than she would have as a pro runner. She still managed to put up some solid results as a "recreational" runner post-college.

I guess people are looking for someone to make it to the international scene, win something for the USA, and... make themselves feel better about... themselves(?) even though it's someone else's accomplishment. After college I ran for a club team with NCAA arch rivals as teammates. I began to realize that it's fun to root for jerseys (teams/countries), but it's really about loving a sport. I have fun rooting for the USA but I don't NEED us to win to enjoy the race.

wnkiedinkie, not a HS boy, just a CA HS coach who was surprised to see the CA state meet have a girl 40s faster than the 2nd fastest time of the day. And she just won the Footlocker West Regional, so I was just trying to highlight one of the best HS girls in the country. I realize she could flame out, hence my "Hopefully she can stay healthy and positive and improve." But she can enjoy her HS accomplishments now, and so can we.
