Has anyone had success treating a hip labrum tear with a PRP or stem cell injection?

No, because I couldn't afford to try. Insurance paid (mostly) for surgery and PT so that is the route I have gone.
Also the surgeon told me PRP wouldn't work for a hip labrum tear because the material would just disperse - no containment for that injury. Granted an injection guy would probably tell me different but as stated above I couldn't afford to try anything other than steroid injections which did not work.

How much would it have cost you to get a PRP injection?
As anyone else had a PRP injection in their hip?
I had 4 treatments at about $1000 a piece included PRP Blood rich Plasma and Prolotherapy. End result is I'm about 75% better. I can read body pretty good so I know my limits. Beat having a hip surgery in my 52 year old eyes. Goodluck!
Was your problem a labrum tear? How long after your injury did you get the injections? With my labrum tear after a year it got about 50% better on it's own so I wonder how you know it was the injections and not time that did it for you?
Yes, it was a labral tear from an impingement. Tried a couple of cortizone shots b4 I decided to have the injections. It was 18 months after I tore it and was a result of me compensating from a previous hip flexor tear in my other my other leg. If you live in Florida or Illinois I've got a guy for you.
Did you get the prolotherapy shots before or after you got the PRP? Did they mix stems cells with the PRP or was it just straight PRP?

I just dodged a treatment that would cost me $250 a pop, top-notch clinic/professional. You paid a lot, buddy.
To the OP: weigh in your choices. PRP is not a miracle cure, it might do nothing for you other than drain your savings. No insurance will cover for that. Find a good PT and work hard. Really, find a good PT. It might take you a couple tries. Most PTs are hacks.
I had a scope last year and am good as new. Insurance covered almost everything, I think I was out a few hundred bucks when it was all said and done. Considering that I had a bone spur causing the impingement, there was no choice because it would just tear again. Weigh your options, surgery isn't that bad, and cortisone only worked for easy runs.
FWIW I haven't heard of anyone having success with PRP or stem, but most people I know were in a similar situation to me.

Straight PRP. Dr Ross Hauser did mine. Pull up his video's on youtube, he's also written several books and has been practicing over 25 years. If I had the cash I would have had 1-2 more treatments. Goodluck!

What physical therapy exercises did you find helpful? I found a good PT but for me PT made it hurt worse.
I've had surgery in conjunction with PRP for both hips for impingement and tears. Both hips are now 100 percent healthy. I don't think an injection, even if it works, is a long terms solution if you have impingement. It will just tear again eventually.

I don't have impingement just a tear, can PRP actually heal it?
Hi Tom,
I was surfing the internet and saw your question and though I would respond. I just had an ultra sound guided PRP injection two days ago so can't answer your question exactly at this point but certainly can keep you updated with my progress. My labrum tears are from 20 years of long distance running so just due to wear & tear and not from an impingement, probably similar to you. I turned 45 last year and I swear my body started falling apart. I had an MRI to confirm the tears in may and stopped running completely by august as even a 3km run was excruciating both during and after. I can't even hike for over 1.5 hours without post exercise pain but can seem to bike for 2-3 hours without any issues.
My sports physician thinks PRP injections may become a commonplace procedure in 5-10 years but right now they are not overly popular in Canada and even my physician friends are unfamiliar with the procedure. Although I should remark my sports doc did not do the procedure or even recommend the orthopaedic surgeon who did it. I happen to visit the surgeon for another matter & he then mentioned he did the PRP injections. I did a bit of research and then decided to try it. I live in Ontario so I paid $385 per hip for the procedure because my provincial health care covers the injection part just not the blood withdrawal and separation in the centrifuges. I had a good concentration of plasma but not a lot of it so I may have to go back & get a second set of shots in a month.
I am really hoping the PRP injections help heal the labrum although I have already decided my running days are behind me but want to continue cycling, hiking, strength training, etc and really don't want surgery.
I'll keep you posted on my journey with the PRP.
Christine

Yes, for arthritis not a labrum tear. And I'm getting stem cells later this month.
Hi can you email me contact informatiom for the guy you know in IL? Thanks! Angelarawal@gmail.com
Hi Christine,
I am wondering how the PRP injections worked for your labral tear. And were you told if the PRP works better in some types of labral tears over others? I've heard that certain types of tears do better than others for surgery so curious if that's the same for PRP injections.
Thanks!

hot beef injection works better with fewer side effects.
