She's 22 years old next month. How is she considered a freshman?

Was wondering this too. Surely she'd be a junior or senior at 22?

Why is this considered abnormal? Christy Cazzola from UW Oshkosh was dominating her competition not too long ago, and she was competing in the NCAA despite being in her late 20s.
She's from Sourh Africa, for some reason I find that all the international students always seem to be older than the average. Look at high school star Weini Kelati she's 20 and a senior in high school.
I think she took at gap year before college to focus on running. Health issues can have an impact on studies as well so maybe it could be that as well but who knows.
As long as she runs without shoes she is allowed to stay a freshman.
i think its ridiculous that there is no age limit. She will be competing as a sr. at 25 yrs of age
Ches is another example.
She ran one race last year and then was hit by a car.....Thus is able to redshirt.
Get the facts before trashing.
Ever hear of Henry Rono?
PS- Kelati is 19......and out of eligibility....No comparison.
There is an age limit. I think it's 26. Check the NCAA website.
She's going to be 20 this year. I'm was just saying international people tend to be older.

There is no "age limit". Download the free rule book via PDF.
Cheserek is a prime example.
correct, simply because of hardships in their home countries that you cannot imagine. Not because they are trying to cheat or gain an advantage.
Seyta defends and is an advocate for African age advantaged athletes in the NCAA.
The thing I find funny is that most of you folks probably "hate" on us age group hobby joggers, when in fact you are the ones most hung up on age.
High School and Collegiate levels are about level of education, not absolute age. You're advocating for age group competitions. Nonsense. I'd say NCAA (adult age) should be competing at the professional level, or GTFO and quit wanting to be a big fish in a small pond.
Cazzola was absolutely out of the norm. 18-23 is the norm. The exceptions are the 24-26 year olds, typically foreigners and Mormons. Bothma should not be granted four years eligibility if she is 22 now.
Incidentally, I see her in the top five tomorrow, cold or no cold.
wait, if she's going to be 20 this year, then this isn't an issue--just a normal redshirt.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
