Yes it is.

There are many health conditions and medications that cause or can cause substantial weight gain.
No there aren't. There are VERY FEW of these.

Some of these even alter a person's DNA in such a way that weight loss even with great diet and high levels of exercise is much much harder than it is for a normal person.
Why does Kenya, Ethiopia, or even Luxembourg seem to have none of these disorders?
Sad news: The rest of the world is quickly catching up to us in terms of fatness (fattiness? Fattinest?) Wherever "food science" is to be found, fatness is not far behind.
What I discovered is that the trick is to eat WHOLE FOODS, not processed foods, and eat only when seriously hungry. I mean stomach-is-empty-and-starting-to-pinch hungry. I did this, and ran moderately, and the pounds just melted off. That is why I am similarly intolerant of fatties. I figure that if I did it, anyone can do it. It was not fun but it was very very possible and it happened in about nine months (30 pounds fat loss, kept off for three years). And I am over 30 and female. I ignored the stupidity (my own and others') and just got er done. You simply change your diet to whole foods, exercise regularly, become hungry before you eat--every time -- and the fatness slips away. It's simple but it is not easy.
Offices are full of lazy people who eat junk with abandon and go home to watch the pay-tv on the stun gun.
Rant Over/Intolerance to continue.
