I guess my main question is this:
Our city is so starved for developers yet I hear from people like you that they are "a dime a dozen" or "the writing is on the wall" with outsourcing.
Why all the conflicting information - it's so frustrating.
1. pop_pop is a blowhard regardless of whatever he's trying to say (as is "coach d" when he eventually chimes in), the rest of the posts here are good
2. There is high demand for GOOD developers. ~90% of developers at big tech companies are H1B immigrants who cost a lot more to hire than a citizen.
3. Easy brain-dead jobs which may have existed in the 1990's may be gone but that hardly counts as programming in my book. A fraction of people without the brain/aptitude for coding may have made it through a CS major, or heard that programming was the hot new thing, then when they can't get a job they report that all the jobs are in India now...
4. No need to specialize in one language or area if you're brand new. Just start coding, there are free tools for about everything. You would be better off learning a wide range of languages. Definitely no need to pick based on a current business trend
