I'm 'parent age' but definetly ran in HS (and was better then than I am now). So I'm reading this thread and finally see 2 posts that made sense to me.
I did about 70-75 mpw in HS and was basically unsupervised. Occasionally I was with someone else, so not every single mile was absolutely solitary but most of them were. No one told me where to go or when, how far, how fast, or anything.
And you know what, it didn't seem to be a problem. In fact my HS PRs are better than all of yours for actual universally recognized event (ie 10k as opposed to 3200m). Look, I'm old and slower now, and ain't trying to brag. I'm just saying that unregulated, unsupervised training seems to produce results.
As this board often illuminated, even Mo is no longer baby-sat by Al anymore.
